Looking back at what i have achieve doing this project i am mostly happy with what i have done. Even though i had to change my idea because i wouldn't have had enough time to learn how to use the software and wouldn't have been able to complete making a projection onto a building.
I think that making the animation was the best decision because it meant that i was still able to challenge myself with learning a new software and making something i hadn't made before. By the end of the term i was bale to make a 3D model of the South bank centre and was able to animate a robot to skate around it. I had to learn how to use Maya because even though i have used it once before it was years ago and all i learnt to do was texturing, so i had to learn how to use it to create a model.
I found it hard to make the camera move in the ways i wanted to at first but after a few youtube tutorial i managed to get it to work. Over all i think i spent too much time making the animation to look as real as i could make it and not enough time with to story i wanted to tell with it. but apart form that i think that i used my time well, i was able to stick to all my target with work.
For next year i think that i will be better equip because i know how much time i need to put into a new software and i will need to put more time into making sure that all the aspects of my work is up to standard. I'm also glad that i rethought my idea because it me ants that next year i will be able to do it now i have more of a knowledge about digital media and how much time i will need to put into it.

Animating
After i had done all my finishing touches and my model was finished i needed to animate it.
I did this by using the camera and moving it where i wanted it to be and making it transition with the robot as it moved around the building.

finishing touches
After i had made sure that the model of the south bank centre was done and that i couldn't do anymore to it to make it look realistic i needed to build the skate park underneath it.
I did this by using different objects that could be used to make a skate park. I needed round objects to make a tunnel to make my robot skate through and also a bar to grind on. after i had made these i textured them with grafiti to make it look more realistic.
I then added a boat on the water because it looked too plain and it also gave it the affect of the busy water front.

Textures
After i was happy with how my model looked i then needed to texture.
I added similar textures to what i thought would be used on the centre. I found images of a free website but i changed the colours of them in Photoshop so they would look more like the really building.

Maya
After leaning how to use maya a bit better i then started making my basic shapes look more like the South banks centre.
I made more shapes and detail to the buliding after it started to look more realistic i added in windows and added an effect to the water.

I took away pieces i didn't need and added even more detail like railings along the edge of the path.

Maya
After i had made my robot i decided to make the South bank centre.
I started off by making the ground and water. I the added the base of the centre and surrounding areas. I then added some pillars and ramps to make it more realistic.
I then started to build the base of the centre. I started with basic shapes just make sure i had got everything in the right places and to make sure it looked right.

change of plan
Because of the constant awareness of the skate park underneath the centre i have decide that i am going to base my animation more on that side of things and not on the remodel of the centre.

Idea
I need to start thinking of what i want to include in my animation.
I know that i want a robot to be the main focus of the animation but i also want to show the new building that the south bank centre want to build.

Examples of work so far
After making the body of the robot I needed to make a mouth to make it more realistic, I used to tool to pull back a certain part of his head.
After I did this I made his teeth and eyes to make him look even more affective.
Then I added colour to it to give it more of a character.
Test
Im new to maya so i need to learn how to use it. Before i look at tutorials I'm going to just look at maya myself to see if i can figure out how to use it

change of idea
I've been thinking of different ideas that i might be able to do but still making it for the Southbank centre but maybe not using projection mapping.
i know that i still want to make 3D models and maybe animate them to interact with each other. I will still be making a model of the Southbank centre as it is now and how it will look after it is re-modeld but now i am doing to add a skateboarding robot to represent the skatepark. This was it still keep within the themes of what the Southbank represent and hopefully will attract a newer younger audience with my animation.

Proposal
What is the intended idea
/ concept behind the proposed project or animated short?
I intend to create a 3D
model of the Southbank centre and project a digital map onto the building so
that I can project what I want on the side on the building. I chose to do it on
a 3D model instead of the real building because I wouldn’t be able to afford
the equipment needed to do it on a building that size. I will project images
that represent what the Southbank centre has to offer such as the skate park
and at the end I will ‘knock down’ the old building and rebuild it as the new
building they are planning to build. I will be impartial and only show what the
centre is known for. I want this piece to build awareness for the Southbank
centre and show what it is going to look like.
Describe the intended
audience:
When doing research on the
Southbank centre it was clear that they wanted to get younger audiences to be
more interested in going to the Southbank centre. So I decided I’m going to aim
my project at them. I think it will be affective because it’s very visual and
more interesting to make the audience interested in the centre. This will also
be a able to shown on social media so that it has more chance of being shown to
more of an audience that if it was just shown at the centre.
How will this project
extend your or your team’s creative and technical skills?
I will be using a new
software that I have used once before, I will be using Maya. I’ve chose this one
because even though I haven’t done much with it I know that I will be able to
create the look I wanted with it. I will also be using after effects. I’ve used
this software a lot before but I will be using it in a different way.
Outline how the practical
work will be carried out by you /the group (division of labour) and the
time-scales involved for each task:
The first thing I need to
do is research want are the most important things about the Southbank centre,
this will be used to what I will be projecting onto the building. I will do
this in weeks 2/4.
The next thing I will need
to do is research Maya and start of my 3D model of the Southbank. Week 4.
Continue working on my
model and hopefully finish it. Weeks 5/6.
Work on my presentation
for R&D. week 6.
Research projection
mapping and start it of. Week 7.
Complete the mapping and
make sure it is right for the Southbank.
8/9.
Put both the model and the
map together and make sure it works. Make final changes to any of the work to
make sure it looks the best I can be. Weeks 10/11.
What other work (by
animators, designers, film-makers, writers, digital media producers, etc.) is
relevant to your project? (This work may either be relevant for its conceptual
or technical similarity):
Box by the creators
project and the projection at Disney land that the project onto the castle
where one of the first projections I saw and inspired me to create something
like that. Since then I’ve seen a few more projection-mapping videos that have
also inspired me like the Ralph Lauren projection. I’ve always wondered how it
was done and wanted to recreate a similar look.
